TILBURG ON THE MAP

Dear readers,

In 2017, I returned to my hometown as mayor. What struck me was that Tilburg had definitively shaken off its past as a textile city. Piushaven and Spoorzone, in particular, clearly showed the transformation. For the past ten years, 013 Straatjes has been showcasing the changes in Tilburg, drawing attention to what stands out, but even more so to the hidden gems the city has to offer.

Jolanda and Edwin of 013 Straatjes had already realised in 2015 that the time was ripe for Tilburg to have its own city guide. At the time, the well-known Lonely Planet advised tourists to avoid our city, except when the funfair was here. Who would have thought that in less than a decade, Tilburg would be recommended for a day trip, a weekend trip, or even for a week’s holiday?

With the success of 013 Straatjes, the popularity of Tilburg increased. The city guide’s founding editors worked hard for this. I would like to congratulate them on the 10th anniversary of 013 Straatjes. Today, residents of Tilburg openly talk about their city with pride. Thank you for this!
